In 1948 a new body style was introduced called the Station Sedan. In other words a "Woody Wagon". Packard brought out this expensive automobile ($3,425 at introduction). It represented a large investment in tooling, special panels being required for the roof and quarters. The body was all-steel, which is an early application of this principle to station wagons. Packard trimmed it with generous panels of white ash. The tailgate structure was all wood and of two piece design hinged at the top and bottom, a configuration to become standard in the industry for many years. A folding bracket was mounted on the tailgate to display the license plate when the gate was down.
